Responsible gambling
Our picks are numbers, not promises. Even our widest edges lose often, so only bet money you can lose without it hurting, and stop the day it stops being fun.
Before placing a bet
- You need to be 21 or older and be in a state where sports betting is permitted. Rules vary by state, and some states don't allow any online sports betting.
- Before the first game, set your budget for the week, and don't chase a loss with a bigger bet.
- Each licensed sportsbook offers deposit, wager and time limits, plus a cool-off break or self-exclusion. Apply those controls early.
Where to find support
Around the clock, you can reach the free and confidential national helpline by calling or texting 1-800-GAMBLER. Several states also operate their own helplines:
| State | Help line |
|---|---|
| New York | 877-8-HOPENY (877-846-7369) |
| Massachusetts | 1-800-327-5050 |
| Connecticut | 1-888-789-7777 |
| Maryland | 1-800-GAMBLER, or online at mdgamblinghelp.org |
Watch for warning signs: you bet more for the same buzz, keep bets from people close to you, or borrow money to bet. If any of this sounds familiar, call the helpline above today.
